PO (Portable Object) files are text files containing translations of software strings. POT (Portable Object Template) files are similar but contain only the original strings that need to be translated. They are both part of the GNU gettext system used for software internationalization.
Yes, TranslatePOT is 100% free to use. You can translate your PO/POT files to any of our supported languages without any cost or limitations on file size (up to 16MB).
TranslatePOT uses Google Translate's neural machine translation technology with built-in safeguards for technical content. While the translations are powered by Google's advanced AI, we recommend reviewing them, especially for technical or context-specific terms.
After translation, you can use our review interface to verify and edit any translations before downloading the final files. The interface shows both the original text and translation side by side for easy comparison.
TranslatePOT supports over 100 languages and regional variants for translation, including major languages like Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, and many more. You can translate from English to any of these languages.

After translation, you can download a ZIP file containing both .po and .mo files:
- The .po file is the translated text file that you can edit further if needed.
- The .mo file is the compiled binary version that you can directly use in your software application.
Simply place these files in your project's locale directory according to your framework's requirements.
No, we don't permanently store your files. Your uploaded files and generated translations are temporarily stored only for the duration of your session and are automatically deleted afterward to protect your privacy.
Currently, TranslatePOT is designed to translate from English to other languages. Support for translating from non-English source languages may be added in the future.
TranslatePOT has a strict file size limit of 16MB. Files larger than this size cannot be processed by our service.
